What are the grounds for divorce?

The Singapore Court will only allow a divorce if it is proved that there is an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. To prove that this, one of the following scenarios must be proved to the court:

  • Adultery

  • Unreasonable behavior

  • Desertion of at least two years

  • Separation of at least three years with consent

  • Separation of at least four years without consent

A lawyer will be able to assess the specific facts of your marriage to evaluate if you can sufficiently prove to the court that there is an irretrievable breakdown of your marriage.
