What court should I file my claim in?

Civil claims of different amounts need to be filed in different courts.

The three Courts that handle civil claims in Singapore and their respective monetary claim limits are as follows:

  • The Magistrate Court: Up to S$60,000

  • The District Court: Above S$60,000 to S$250,000

  • The High Court: Above S$250,000

The Magistrate Court has a simplified court process designed to lower the legal costs incurred by parties due to the relatively lower value of the monetary claims heard.

The High Court of Singapore, on the other hand, has unlimited monetary jurisdiction. In this regard, all claims above S$250,000 should be started in the High Court.
